Bionicle Masks of the Elders Official Walkthrough

ACT I The Reverser Seed

Scene I The Journey Home

ABANDONED ISLE - You start off the game on an abandoned island talking with Raika about
what you can see from there. Once he joins the party, you can go down the ladders you've placed to
the cave entrance on the left side of the beach. Ignore the odd-looking rock on the right side for now.

TUNNEL NETWORK Now that you've reached the Tunnel Network, head forward and to the
left a bit to find that your pack's been raided, and that your tools are stolen. Not to worry you don't
need them yet anyhow. Head north, and you'll end up in a fight with a Stone Hydruka. This is the battle
tutorial. Choose Yes and you'll get a quick runthrough on the battle system. Choose No and you can
just fight it until it dies. No real strategy needed, and you don't even need to use anything from your
pack, since you'll get healed at the end of the battle anyway. After that, the rest of the path is pretty
simple. Just keep going to where there aren't dead ends, and eventually, you'll end up on your home
island.

CHO-KORO Of course, you're immediately faced with a problem, and after a cutscene, you'll
begin your preparations for the coming quest. Before you can head out, you'll need three things: 1. Go
to Arikan's house near the Turaga's to get some healing items. 2. Go to Raika's house just right of the
ramp to get some Equipment (equip it now), and 3. Go to Shoriis' workshop to the left of the ramp to
get the Mallet. While you're here, you can also go and spend some of the money you got from the
enemies in the tunnels and buy some more healing items from the shop. Once you think you're ready,
head back into the tunnels.

Scene II Embarking on the Adventure

TUNNEL NETWORK This time, we'll head west, instead of back to the Abandoned Island.
Follow the path as Raika instructs, and you'll reach a spot where Arikan wants you to choose which
path. If you're in a hurry, you can choose no. Choosing Yes is covered right after this part. Follow the
path northwest and you'll eventually reach the Overworld.

OPTIONAL There are three things you can do before heading out to the overworld. First, go
back along the southern route to a cave that's blocked by a Tan Rock. Smash it with the Mallet and
you'll enter a cave containing a Rahi Suit, 2 Bula Berries, and some Widgets. Second, smash the Tan
Rock just north of the Rock Wheel and you'll be able to enter an abandoned resort area, where there's
a bag with some Widgets on the northern end. Third, you can choose to follow Arikan's suggestion and
get a scene on an island midway between Cho-koro and Zakaz.

OVERWORLD (Zakaz) If you chose to get a tutorial for the battle setup, you'll also get a
tutorial for the overworld. Take this opportunity to save and maybe gain a level or two. After that, just
head over to the mountains and enter the pass to the first Dungeon.

DUNGEON I ZAKAZ CLIFFS This level is pretty straightforward. If you get lost, I'll be
shocked. Anyway, climb up the ramps until you see a branch heading up between two rockfaces. Take
this, smash a Tan Rock, and grab a Bula Berry someone left behind. Go up the ramp to an open area,
and you'll see some Tan and Blue Rocks guarding a bag and a Treasure Chest. You can't break the Blue
Rocks yet, so just smash the Tan ones until you reach the bag, and you'll get some Haiga Leaves. Notice
that at the southern edge of this area, there's a set of gray rocks heading down. Ignore those for now.
Further along the path, you'll see another bag that contains some Widgets. Eventually, you'll reach a
point where Raika points out some marks on the cliff-faces. Head forward to a Save Point and heal
upThings are about to get pretty nasty. Prepare to face your first BOSS Tunnel Patrol Mech.

After he's defeated, continue down the cliffs and exit on the other side.

OVERWORLD (Zakaz) Head East to the next village, Za-koro.

ZA-KORO Here, there are actually things to do, as opposed to the previous village. Head over
to the barrel in the compost heap to find a stash of Cholo berries there. Near there is the Dojo, where
you can teach Arikan a new move, Feral Swipe, in exchange for [] Widgets. Behind the Dojo is a small
item shop, so use some of your remaining money there. Next to that is Varr's booth, but don't go
there yet (nothing will happen). Talk to the green Skakdi nearby to buy some armor (if you want). Be
sure to save at the middle of the town and have a rest at the Inn to the east. On an unrelated note,
there's a Skakdi looking at a small dirt field in the western part of town that has some interesting things
to say.
Now, to progress through the story, head to the southwest, and talk to Nomiki, a merchant
with a customer at his stall. This will trigger a cutscene where you finally meet Arkhus, who tells you
what to do for the rest of Act I, and the first step is to talk to Varr, so go do that now. You'll see
another couple of cutscenes, and find yourself on the next island: Xia.

Scene III The Quest for the Reverser Seed

XI-Metru Enter the elevator and press the button for a quick cutscene, then exit into the
clean and luxurious Upper City of Xi-Metru. As big as the city is, you can only access a small part of the
uptown region. The three buildings of importance here are an inn, which you can't afford, a small item
shop, and a shop that sells more expensive goods. I'd recommend not visiting any of them right now,
except the expensive shop, where you should get the Sports Disk for Arikan (don't sell the Practice
Disk, thoughyou'll want to keep it for later). After that, save at the Olmak Post, then enter the
transit tunnel, which leads to the elevator going down to the street level.
As you can tell, this place is a bit different. Despite the numerous Matoran, there's very little
you're allowed to do here. First, though, head left, and go into the alley by the river, where a Matoran
will warn you about some nasty folks that have snuck into the alley. Brave the criminal underworld and
you'll get a free Crude Shelter. After that, head back to the elevator, and start working your way right.
Nearby, there's a restaurant, whose owner is standing outside. This place is going to be important
later, but for now, nothing happens there. Keep walking along the road and you'll find a barrel to your
right with some Haiga Leaves opposite a doughnut-shaped building, then a small inn near the bridge.
Rest there, then cross the bridge into the REALLY scummy part of town, where you'll encounter
several new enemies. For now, you'll be forgiven for fleeing, since they're anomalously tough.
However, there's one thing you'll want to do that's in the southwest corner of the "park" area. You'll
find a solitary Matoran there who'll sell you some rare artifacts (at inflated prices). DEFINITELY buy the
Scout's Armor from him, and maybe the Jewel Lens. Don't buy the Dark Heartlight, though.
Now, to get out of that area, just head around the building next to the bridge where you
entered and head east. You'll enter a much quieter part of town, and eventually stumble into an alley,
where a cutscene will occur, and you'll enter the next Dungeon.

DUNGEON II SEWER SYSTEM This dungeon, really the first proper dungeon, is a lot more
complex than the last one. Start off by heading south and entering the main chamber, where you'll
see five exits heading off in different directions, two of which are blocked off. Ignore the middle pipe
on the right side, since that leads to a dead end very quickly. That just leaves two routes to take. Take
the pipe on the north end, and you'll find a little room branching off that pipe that has four Bula Berries
in it. The rest of that path is dead end, so go back to the main chamber. Now, take the pipe in the
upper-right corner. Follow its twists and turns and turn right (you have to, since the left path is
blocked) at the fork to the next chamber. Continue down through the next pipe, and grab a bag of Widgets
nearby before taking the branch heading down You'll end up in the part of the main chamber that was
blocked off before, so keep going down the stairs to the next floor.
Now that you're deep in the sewers, follow the next pipe up, and Yorus will tell you about two
keys that you need to find. While this is important, we'll ignore it for now, and keep heading north.
There's a branch of the pipe that has an interesting Matoran, if you want to talk to him. If not, keep
heading north into the next chamber, where you'll find a Kuals Vial in the treasure chest. Take the pipe
on the lower right, and you'll find some Rags (just skip that, really, unless you're that desperate for
money). Then, take the eastbound pipe and keep going straight to find a Vuata Maca leaf. Head south,
then east at the next branch, and follow the pipe to the northeast corner of the floor, where there's a
raised piece of floor with a key. Take it, then head back south where you entered, and keep going
south to the main chamber. Here, head east, since all other paths are blocked by Sludge pillars, and
enter the eastern chamber. Head south into another pipe, and then east again to a small side room
with the other key. Head back north through the eastern chamber and continue to the northeast
area. Notice the same raised piece of floor, but now you're on the other side of the sludge pillars.
Head east and you'll see a door, so open it and continue.

TEMPLE OF KNOWLEDGE This part is kind of boring, but VERY IMPORTANT! Save at the Olmak
Post across from the stairs, and then head up to start a chain of cutscenes. During this time, you'll get
Xu on your team as a fourth member, and you'll be introduced to the Class System. This is the
important part, and the reason I had you save before you triggered the cutscene: You only have one
chance to choose your elements, so you WILL want to get this right. When asked for Arikan, Choose
WIND. You will thank me later on for doing this now, since you'll be fighting an Earth-based boss
before the end of the Act. For Raika, choose STONE, and for Yorus, choose WATER. Xu is already
chosen for you, and if you missed this part, or chose Fire for Arikan (also acceptable, but it will make
things a bit more difficult in Act I), don't worry too much, since he has the ICE element, and an extra
move to boot, so you're in good hands. One thing you do NOT want to do is have all of your team be of
the same Element, especially Fire and Wind. You will want a Water-elemental on your party as a
healer, and at least one Fire or Stone elemental for attack. I'll go into specific strategies later on. For
now, go with what I told you above.

XI-METRU (Part II) First, check the barrel in the alley (the one Yorus turned to during the
cutscene) to get a free Practice Disk (in case you accidentally sold yours to get the Sports Disk), then
start heading left. Just keep going there until you see the path to the exit. You'll get there, and be
immediately faced with a BOSS BATTLE, against the Vahlkri Squad. Defeat them and head to the
Overworld.

OVERWORLD (Xia) Save, and fight a few of the monsters here to gain some levels, and
prepare to head to the next area, the Xia Cliffs.

XIA CLIFFS This area is pretty straightforward, and very similar to the Zakaz cliff area. There's
a bag of Synleaves off to the side early on, and a Koluna Vial near some boulders near the end. The
enemies here are tougher than the ones in the city, so be warned. Also, don't go back to go down the
cliffstone until later; there's nothing you can do where they lead right now anyway.

OVERWORLD (Xia) Save, heal, and maybe gain a level or two. The next dungeon is going to
be hard.

DUNGEON III THE MOUNTAIN This is it: the first really big, hard dungeon: The Mountain.
The trick of this dungeon is remembering where the entrances to the caves are and where they lead.
On the other hand, you have a walkthrough, so Let's continue.
F1: Start off going up along the path, and get the Vuata Maca Fruit in the bag on the wayside.
Continue on to a fork in the road. Take the upper-left path to a small cave with a suit of Scout's Armor
in it. Backtrack, and go into the other cave, which is the main cavern for the first "Floor" of the
Mountain. Here, there are two items to get. The first is due south, at the end of a small tunnel. The
other is off to the southwest, in another small area. Once you've gotten those, head in the northwest
branch that ISN'T blocked by boulders; the one that is is a dead end. Anyway, you'll be going up some
ramps, exiting at another fork in the road. This time, head southeast and into yet another cave. You'll
be heading right back down, and exit into a cutscene with an injured hiker named Gars. He'll give you
his Climbing Hooks, which will help greatly. Now, you see that grey stone there? That's Cliffstone.
Press Enter in front of it to climb up. Now, go into the cave, and you'll find yourself in the main
chamber. Exit the same way you did last time, through the highest exit, and this time, take the
western path over to another bit of Cliffstone, and climb up.
F2: First, save, then head up to the next area, and you're presented with three different
paths: Two that lead along the ground, and one that has you climbing more Cliffstone. Take either of
the ground paths into a small tunnel where there's an item off to the side, and then exit back to the
mountainside. Go back and take the third path up the Cliffstone, and go into the last tunnel, where
you'll have to break some rocks to continue. Exit to the mountainside, and you'll be at another branch.
Take the south path this time, and you'll find a Mountain Fragment (which is Earth-resistant) in a pit
nearby. Equip it, then go back to the northwest path, which will take you near the top of the
mountain. Take a detour near the Olmak post to find a Noble Kanohi Hau in a treasure chest. Equip this
now; You'll thank me. Now, save and go up to the top of the mountain.
F3: Head up to the summit, and a cutscene will trigger. You'll be faced with the big Boss Battle
of Act I: the Exo Golem. Consult the Boss Guide for a strategy. Once it's defeated, you'll be granted the
Reverser Seed, and the cutscenes will continue until Turaga Kohlni is cured, and you learn of your next
mission: to find the Sage Ikuria in the Swamps of Loro-Kava.
